Vietnam, despite its modernity, is still quite an agricultural state. It is the world's largest producer of coffee and rice, and once you get just outside of the cities, the verdant landscapes are patchwork quilts of rice paddies, fields of corn and grain, plots of fruit and vegetables. Most of the work is still done by hand, with the aid of water buffalos. Tradition is very much alive and well. That being said, some of these images were actually taken in Cambodia, which has a similar agricultural lifestyle. Turns out that I saw amazing farms and rice paddies in Vietnam... but out of the window of a bus! In Cambodia, we had a little more time and flexibility to stop along the way to smell the, uh, roses.
